By constructing the normal track railroad of Šamac – Sarajevo – Ploče in 1966, and in particular its electrification in 1969, the Port of Ploče was supposed to enter its current development phase. However, the Agreement on the Integration of ŽTP Sarajevo and the Port of Ploče from 16 September 1969 did not bring the expected results, at least not to the port. The port was supposed to rise to a much higher level than at the time of the crossroads, to include it in the international division of labor as a modern and competitive Mediterranean port.
