1970. – 1979.

The traffic in the Port of Ploče increased in 1979 by 400% compared to 1966. In parallel with the growth of the port, the city of Ploče was being developed with activities related to the port and also to industry. The Port of Ploče had become the cornerstone of the overall development of the Neretva region, thus there was a need for a greater number of workers. This was the reason for the rare phenomenon that the town of Ploče had more employed people in its territory than residents.

1969.

By constructing the normal track railroad of Šamac – Sarajevo – Ploče in 1966, and in particular its electrification in 1969, the Port of Ploče was supposed to enter its current development phase. However, the Agreement on the Integration of ŽTP Sarajevo and the Port of Ploče from 16 September 1969 did not bring the expected results, at least not to the port. The port was supposed to rise to a much higher level than at the time of the crossroads, to include it in the international division of labor as a modern and competitive Mediterranean port.
